TESCO SHOPPERS GIFT A FESTIVE £35K TO NORTHERN IRELAND CHILDREN’S HOSPICE

NORTHERN Ireland Children’s Hospice (NICH) opened a belated Christmas present this week – an amazing £35,682 donation from Tesco customers from across Northern Ireland.

The charity, which provides palliative care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, was invited to fundraise in 30 Tesco stores across Northern Ireland before Christmas. With more than 120 volunteers recruited for a three-day collection effort, the organisation benefitted from customer generosity to support care services for children at home and in hospice.

Joanna Pawson, Northern Ireland Hospice Events Manager, said: “We had an amazing response from Tesco colleagues and customers during our Christmas collection drive – the generosity and support from Northern Ireland people for our organisation is overwhelming.

“The support of so many volunteers also ensured Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice welcomed a record donation that is vital in supporting the valuable work carried out by our skilled care team in hospice and in the community.”

Brendan Guidera, Tesco’s Northern Ireland stores director said: “We at Tesco believe every little helps, and it’s wonderful that a small gesture made by our stores across Northern Ireland has resulted in a record collection for such an important cause.

“The work carried out by the hospice is truly invaluable, but they do require to raise a huge amount of financial backing each year to continue to support children and families in need. We’re proud to have helped them in their efforts and would like to thank our colleagues and customers for getting behind the appeal.”
