Over 100 Belfast Met students and staff, from across all of its campuses, including Milfield, Titanic Quarter, Castlereagh and Springvale, donned their festive jumpers today and nestled together at the Titanic Quarter campus in support of NI Children’s Hospice Christmas fundraising campaign, Jingle All the Way.

Over 100 Belfast Met students and staff, from across all of its campuses, including Milfield, Titanic Quarter, Castlereagh and Springvale, donned their festive jumpers today and nestled together at the Titanic Quarter campus in support of NI Children’s Hospice Christmas fundraising campaign, Jingle All the Way.

The event, which was organised by Belfast Met Level 3 Business Students, aims to raise £1,180 to help pay for 24-hours of specialist palliative nursing care to a local child and their family over the festive period.

Heather Hedley, Training Programmes Curriculum Area Manager at Belfast Met, said: “Belfast Met L3 Business Students are leading the way in supporting Third Sector organisations in the valuable work that is contributing so much to our economy, local communities and enhancing their GRIT skills (Growth, Resilience, Independence and Tolerance) – privileged to be part of the team making all this happen!”

Michele McMaster, Business School Enterprise and Business Services Associate Lecturer at Belfast Met, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for students who are currently studying Enterprise and Entrepreneurship not just to learn how to organise fundraising events with a leading charity, but to understand the importance of business people giving back to the community. The campaign has also raised awareness of the real need of the NI Children’s Hospice, and the important work that they do that requires all important funds.”

Michael Nugent, Regional Fundraiser at NI Children’s Hospice, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the turnout of today’s event. The students and staff have embraced their fundraising with great enthusiasm. It costs £3.82 million each year for NI Children’s Hospice to provide specialist palliative care to local infants, children and young people. Only 35% of that is received through statutory funding, which makes events like today so important for raising vital funds to support our work, we can’t thank the students and staff enough”.
