Today Northern Ireland Hospice is delighted to announce that Ulster University has joined the growing herd of sponsors for Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail this year.
Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail is an exciting collaboration between Northern Ireland Hospice, Wild in Art and Andersen Press, publisher of the best-selling books by David McKee. The trail will see a herd of 30 uniquely decorated Elmer the Patchwork Elephant sculptures make a colourful splash in the streets of Belfast later this summer.
Each Elmer sculpture will be designed by a local artist and placed at key landmarks and open spaces across Belfast creating a free, family-friendly, walking trail. There will also be smaller ‘Young Elmers’ decorated by schools and youth groups across Northern Ireland joining the herd, giving local children the opportunity to get creative and see their own masterpieces form part of the elephant-astic art trail.
This jumbo event is just one of the ways in which the charity is planning to mark the 21 years of Children’s Hospice care. By signing on as a sponsor Ulster University will join the celebrations and help raise vital funds for the charity through this mammoth art event.
Professor Paul Seawright, Deputy Vice Chancellor from Ulster University said, “We are delighted to partner with Northern Ireland Hospice on Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail. Our Belfast campus has a rich artistic history and we hope this trail will inspire some budding artists of the future to get creative. We look forward to welcoming students, staff and the wider public onto our Belfast campus to enjoy our uniquely designed Elmer and support NI Hospice.”
David Clements, Chair at Northern Ireland Hospice said, “We’re hoping that Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail will be a huge success! We’re delighted to have Ulster University join our herd of sponsors and we’re looking forward to working with the team to promote the trail and celebrate our 21st birthday in style.
“I’d encourage others thinking about signing up to become a sponsor and play a key part in this wonderful event for Belfast and raise funds to help Hospice keep providing specialist palliative care to the local community.”
There are a limited number of Elmer elephants looking for sponsors and they will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis, so businesses are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
