Television presenter and Hospice Ambassador, Eamonn Holmes, has weighed in behind Northern Ireland Hospice’s annual Big Coffee Break campaign.
Showcasing his personalised mug, the presenter encouraged supporters to get behind NI Hospice and host their very own Big Coffee Break.
Now in its 29th year, the Big Coffee Break encourages families, friends, and local businesses to take a break and enjoy a cuppa, whilst raising much-needed funds to support the Hospice.
In a special video message, Eamonn said:
“I’m supporting the Northern Ireland Hospice Big Coffee Break, and I don’t even drink coffee. But I’ll have a cup of tea instead, all in honour of the Hospice.
It’s been a horrible year for so many people but one of the things that we must make you aware of is that fundraising for the Hospice is down, and it’s down a lot. What we’re trying to do through the Big Coffee Break is to raise awareness of the Hospice. Thank you if you’re raising a mug for Hospice”.
Heather Weir, Chief Executive at Northern Ireland Hospice and Children’s Hospice, added: “We’re delighted to have our Ambassador Eamonn supporting our annual Big Coffee Break. Throughout the pandemic, our Care Team have still been here, continuing to care for patients and their families during some of the most difficult times of their lives. Having a cup of tea or coffee with your friends is such an easy way to support local people in your community.
“Not many people know, but around 90% of our care is delivered in homes across Northern Ireland, allowing patients to live and die well in the comfort of their own surroundings, with their loved ones by their side. The demand for our services continues to increase, and as we only receive a portion of funding from the government, we rely heavily on fundraising like ‘Big Coffee Break’ to generate vital funds to support our services”.
This year’s Big Coffee Break runs from 30th August to 3rd October and supporters are encouraged to host their Coffee Breaks, virtually or in-person, abiding by NI Executive COVID-19 guidelines. Individuals who sign up will receive their free fundraising pack which includes recipes for their event, bunting, coasters, and a bag of delicious Hospice Blend Coffee.
Northern Ireland Hospice is asking each Big Coffee Break host to raise £140 which could pay for half a day of specialist palliative care for a patient at home, and support for their loved ones.
